By far the largest part of our community lives local to our tea estate. While the majority of the people in the community are plantation workers, they also work at our factory and in our office at Nepuchapur. The total size of the community including our staff family members is over 4000 people.
We are cognisant of our core responsibilities. So we have regularised payroll and ration systems. We also have a regularised provident fund and gratuity system for eligible employees.
We also have a number of welfare programs for our community members which include:
(1) School at Nepuchapur (classes 1-4);
(2) Creche for tiny tots;
(3) Health Centre for medical attention, with a doctor on site;
(4) Ambulance on site for emergencies;
(5) Clubhouse;
(6) Competitive game events (e.g. annual cricket and football tournaments with prizes);
(7) Housing with annual maintenance – since we cannot provide this to all staff we have undertaken a multi-year improvement program to bridge the gap;
(8) Awareness camps (e.g. eye camp, one of which was held at Nepuchapur in each of the years 2006 and 2007);
(9) Accident Insurance for factory and office staff.
