Nnepuchapur Tea Company is characterized in the Dooars region over the past ninety years for its rich heritage and brand.

Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas in the Dooars area, surrounded by other tea estates and sanctuaries, washed by Rivers Kumlai and Naora running through our gardens, Nepuchapur Tea Estate prides itself in contributing to sustaining the ecological balance and harmony in the region.

Our expertise is in the value cycle of transforming tea from the nursery to finished CTC products. Quality-consciousness is an integral part of all our constituent processes. We are one of the result-oriented leaders in the industry in setting and maintaining domain standards.

We also believe in the power of our people. We believe in the dignity of our human resources regardless of where they contribute in the tea making process.  They are our key assets, giving us the responsibility to care for community welfare, which is at the core of our value system.

Integrity, Transparency and Teamwork comprise the three pillars of our mission statement.

Nepuchapur Tea Company Limited was incorporated about ninety years back. Cultivation of the first three blocks adjacent to River Kumlai started in 1927. The garden was named after the first owner named Nepucha, whose exact background can no longer be confirmed. It is said that a part of the initial funding came from Nawab Mokleswar Rahman who had a stake in multiple local tea plantation businesses. The factory at Nepuchapur was established in 1931. By 1939, the garden size had grown to over 500 acres.

In the sixties, Mr. N.C.DasGupta started investing in the tea business, and took charge as the leading shareholder. Mr. DasGupta was born in Jalpaiguri but settled in Kolkata. Although he set up the headquarters at 5 Clive Ghat Street, Kolkata, he spent the majority of his time at Nepuchapur, leading from the front.

Mr. DasGupta’s diligence and leadership were instrumental in the continuous improvements of the estate, most of which were realized in the eighties and the nineties. This included factory and irrigation modernisations. Additional land was acquired at this time for plantation, making the size of the estate grow to approximately 700 acres. The registered office was set up in Jalpaiguri during this time to manage the garden from close quarters.

The leadership vacuum created by Mr. DasGupta's demise in 2005 was short-lived as a new executive team took over, headed by his wife, Mrs. Dipali DasGupta as Chairperson. The registered office was moved to Kolkata. Leading experts were invited to join the management team. A number of strategic investments were made in the plantation, factory, management controls and marketing. The Nepuchapur brand was enhanced by superior qualities of tea produced, at par with the best tea estates in the Dooars.

We lost Mrs. Dipali Dasgupta in 2012 after seven years of her leadership, but drawing inspiration from the rich legacy, the current executive and management teams are determined to make Nepuchapur Tea Company embrace the challenges of globalization, setting new trends and attaining new heights while remaining fully committed to the signature value system crafted by Mr. and Mrs. DasGupta.

Members of our community mostly live locally. While the majority of the people in the community are plantation workers, they also work at our factory and in our office at Nepuchapur. The total size of the community that we provide for, including our staff family members, is over 4000 people.

Although we fulfill our core responsibilities following the prevailing regulations and contracts, our caring goes beyond that in handling the welfare of our valued human resources. Our unfaltering cadence on providing on-time pay and statutory benefits to workers is supplemented by our programs on housing, sanitation, education, child care, medical care, accident insurance, ambulatory care, social activities and sporting events. We also select one employee each quarter who is honored with the manager’s award for exceptional work.
